How do I clean my computer of viruses? How do I clean out the hard drive?

If you're asking this question seriously, I assume you want the easiest possible way of "just get rid of this crap on my pc" problem! So, here goes...

Save on disc anything and everything you need to keep that you are CERTAIN is not infected with a virus. Make sure you know your passwords, etc.

Find your operating system disc and insert into CD drive. Reboot computer. On the load screen, it will give you a prompt to "boot from cd" this is what you want.

Your screen will go blue and start loading files (basically it's reading the cd) and then will prompt you for what you want to do next. Pick the option that tells you to delete partion.(assuming you have just one harddrive. If more than one and only 1 is infected, make sure you know which drive to delete!) It will double check this with you telling you "all data will be lost are you sure you want to do this" Yes! Next, it will give you options of what to do now. Choose "Install windows XP" (or whatever version you have) You should have an option for NTFS or FAT32...choose NTFS (NOT the quick one!) and let it do it's work. Depending on your speed, it could take quite a bit of time or less than 30 mins. It will reboot and get to a point where it asks you for information like computer name and location and whether or not you have an internet connection etc. Just follow the prompts and you should be fine.

When it's all done, your pc will be like it was the day you first brought it home. (Don't forget to take the CD out of your drive!)

Congratulations! You have just formatted your harddrive! (Erased all previous information and reinstalled operating system).

Hope this helps!

easiest way, is to go to avast.com they have a wonderful antivirus program that is true free. It is a very nice one that does not use a lot of your computers memory like the nortons and mcafees do. Download it, then update it, then run it, youll be impressed like i was.
