My friend once told me that I should scan my pc (using an antivirus software such as AVG) in the safe mode. What are the advantages of scanning your pc in the safe mode?

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

personally I believe scanning in safe mode is useful when u have removed the virus and u want to make sure that it is not there again.

Well, some scanners might not run in safe mode. But if it will, then it runs a lot faster because more memory is free and fewer other programs and processes are running.

Safe mode allows for the minimum of drivers to run while you can conduct a complete system scan. But you can run your virus check anytime and it will do the same thing.

If you are having issues with the OS not working properly, and you suspect a virus, then by rebooting into safe mode, you can seek out the issue and resolve it with the antivirus scan.
