Dry nose with crusty scab l..

My Pekingese has a dry crusty nose on the outside. Has anyone experienced this or knows what could cause it. I have tried olive oil and it works ok, but looking for other advice.

Change his diet.

It's probably just a chapped nose or dried snot. The cold and wet nose theory is an old wives tale. A dry nose is nothing to be worried about unless it cracks and bleeds. It it is chapped apply an non-medicated chap stick and it will be fine.

might just be a cold when dog sleeps snot might come out of nose,dry nose,it might get all scabbed up if dog tries to itch to get the snot off.

Cortaid that contains 0.5 to 1.0 percent hydrocoritisone is good, and a little sunscreen when they go outside. It may be an indication of too much UV light associated with being outside a lot. Limit exposure to the sun as well, this may be the first sign of skin cancer.

A few months ago I moved from Quebec (nice and humid) to Alberta (dry as hell) and cats (2) and my dogs (2) all had issues with dry noses and eyes.

For the eyes, I gave them all 2 drops of saline eye solution 2 x per day. Easy....

For the noses, I used:

Saline spray

Vasoline

numerous oils

non-scented hand creams

water

milk

All kinds of lip balm

Don't ask why all these things. I was so frustrated that anything that I didn't think would kill them I tried.

The best thing I found was vasoline, just a LITTLE bit of the intensive care lip therapy. It lasted the longest, irritated the least and was the easiest to apply.

My big dog still gets a dry crusty nose if he digs or rolls in the sand/dirt.
