Toxoplasma gondii IgG positive ..please help will I be contagious for the rest of my life sexually??-Toxoplasma Gondii is a sporozoan species that is an intracellular parasite in a variety of vertebrates and is the causative agent of toxoplasmosis.
-Toxoplasma Gondi is very common and more than 60 million people in the US carry it but few are aware because the immune system keeps the parasite from causing illness. Systems ar similar to flu with fever, fatigue, headache, swollen lymph glands, and muscle aches and pains which may last a couple days to a few weeks. Toxo can be contracted by touching the hands to the mouth after gardening, coming into contact with cat feces (which is why a pregnant woman should try and avoid changing a litter box), eating (or touching the hands to the mouth) raw or partially cooked meat especially pork or lamb. People who are of at high risk to Toxo are people who have inherited an immune defect, someone with the AIDS virus, anyone receiving chemo, anyone who's received a transplant and is taking immunosupressive therapy, and the fetus and a newborn. If a woman is infected while she is pregnant the parasite can cross to the placenta into the unborn child causing birth defects such as mental retardation, epilepsy, spasticity, cerebral palsy, or partial or complete deafness and blindness.
-Once the diagnoses has been made by your doctor s/he will determine whether or not you need to be on meds. If you're a healthy person and you're not pregnant you'll probably not need anything at all. Symptoms will go away in a few weeks.
