i was performing a skin test on a client when the solution i was injecting squirted out and got directly into my eye. i asked the client if he has any blood borne diseases and he claimed to have had hepatitis. he was not able to note what type of hepatitis is it and also cliamed the he is cured from the disease. do i have the possibility of contracting the disease? the solution that hit my eye was just the plain saline solution and the medication to be tested, however, owing to the fact that needle is already inside the skin (epidermis layer) of the client, is it possible to be infected this way? please help.

Getting infected with hepatitis?

I doubt it. Hepatitis C (HCV) is transmitted by blood to blood contact only. If there was blood involved, then there is a risk, but it would have had to go directly into your bloodstream. It doesn't sound like happened from your description. However, to be sure, get tested. It takes 2-24 weeks for the virus to show up in tests. There is a treatment for HCV, and if the person remains cleared of the virus at 6 months after stopping the treatment, then they are considered to be sustained virological responders (SVR). A few years ago, the medical community did not use the word "cured" when referring to HCV, however, since the treatment has improved over the last few years and people are staying cleared of the virus for years, they are beginning to use the "C" word more freely now. Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
