My dog suffered from Addison's disease about a year and a half ago, and he has had really bad skin and hair condition since, he has scaly skin and his hair used to be fluffy, but now it is thin and you can see his skin through it....

He is an extremelly attractive dog, winning first prize in most appealing eyes four years in a row and he won best condition dog (ironic) before he suffered from the disease.

He takes steroids everyday as well, which can't help.

Does anybody have any ideas???

Thanks.

How can i make my dogs hair thicker?

Puppies usually have their adult coats by 10 months or so. If his hair has already gone from curly to straight, he probably has most of his adult coat already. It may thicken up some, but don't count on it. The sweater in the winter is a good idea. As far as sunburn goes, I wouldn't worry too much about it. (I assume your not tying him up in the full sun all day.) The hair that he has should provide enough shade to prevent him from burning. Laying in the sun coming in through a window is fine. He won't burn through the window. I groom many dogs, and some of them are very thin haired, so its not that uncommon.

It could be from his medical condition, but you might find supplementing his diet. When our Golden Retriever showed signs of aging, his coat thinned out a lot. He would shiver and didnt appear comfortable. We began adding Dr. Maggie's Skin and Coat Supplement to his regular dog food (Natural Balance) and I would say by the time we were into the second bottle of it, he was beginning to thicken up his coat. We will continue with Dr. Maggies because it works, and we have a comfortable thick-coated old dog again!
