Isn't this sad?

So I went to a horse show this weekend (that I was in) and the aisle of stalls my horse was in, there were other horses being boarded there. So I went and looked. There was a 24 year old horse. He was COMPLETELY bald and couldn't do anything. He didnt have a mane, tail, or a coat. His knees are badly injured so he can't walk. He can't be turned out because he has no way of getting bugs off of him and he would get severly sun burned. My instructor said he had a disease but I forget what it is called. She also said that a horse not having its fur coat is like us not having skin. They are putting him down this week or the next =(

Isn't this sad?

yes that is very sad. Well living and dying its a part of life, life is worth living so live it and dying is a part of life, there comes a time after a good life to pass away into the after life

Isn't this sad?

Yes very very sad and tragic.

Isn't this sad?

That's terribly sad, but if he's 24, well, he's rather old, right?

Isn't this sad?

Thats messed up!!!!!!! I feel sorry for that poor thing!!! God bless him. Know that he'll be in a better place though.

Isn't this sad?

at least he won't be suffering any more

Isn't this sad?

I should certainly hope so, if this poor horse is that bad off !!! What were they keeping him for, anyway? As a stall ornament? Situations like this serve to point up the reason why slaughterhouses are still a necessary evil in our society. Suppose this horse's owners couldn't afford the euthanasia process, which isn't cheap. With the slaughterhouses permanently closed, and nowhere else to dispose of the horse, who is plainly too old and ill to ever work again, then what do you think they would do with the animal? Their only choice in that situation is to either shoot the horse and send it to the rendering plant to be turned into glue, or abandon the animal and let it starve, which is even more cruel. I hate the slaughterhouses as much as anyone, but I recognize that we NEED them. There isn't space enough to dispose of all the horses which are like this one you have written about, so what are people supposed to do with this type of animal? That's what the anti-slaughter people haven't thought through or considered when they rushed into supporting the new law which banned slaughter of any horse for any reason. Creamation is a fine option, yes, but the great majority of horse owners I know can't afford such a thing. Home burial only works if you have the space to do this- and most of us don't, I'm sorry to say. So what options are there for these poor, sick, lame, viscious, unwanted horses ? Somebody tell me what they are, cause I can't figure them out.
