My husband was bit by a dog..

My husband was bit by a dog at work today. He said the dog looked well taken care of and lived at a pretty nice house. It didn't really break the skin, just like a scratch, he was wearing a long sleeve shirt and jacket at the time. Should we be concerned? Can he catch any disease or anything (I don't think the dog had rabies). He said it seemed the dog was more frightened than anything and only bit him once (didn't attack or anything) and ran away.

You should always be concerned about a dog bite but not paranoid.

Contact the owner of the house and see if it was they're dog and if he his up to date on his shots. If the bite didn't go through his clothing then there's probably little chance of any infection from the dog.

Most times I've been bitten the majority of the damage was caused by my reflex of yanking my arm out of the dogs mouth and scraping on his teeth as opposed to him actually sinking his teeth into me. If your husband has a "scrape" this is most likely the case.

Better safe than sorry though so have him try to make contact with the owner nicely and find out about the dogs shots.

Since the dog didnt continue to attack him, it doesnt sound like he had rabies.. But I would maybe consult a doctor and see what they think.. Good luck..
