How do you get an external hemroid (skin tag) removed?

Usually your primary doctor can take care of it. They will numb the area and then simply cut it off. If it is small enough you could do it yourself with an ice cube, clippers and a band-aid. I've know people who have done it this was also.

You need to see a Proctologist. Call Kaiser and ask if you need a referral from your primary care physician to see a proctologist. Proctologists specialize in treating both internal and external hemmorhoids. It's not invasive enough for a general surgeon and most GI physicians avoid doing these to focus on colonoscopies and other screening tests. Family Practice physicians and internists can remove them but many choose not to do so because of it tends to be a messy procedure. If a FP or Internists claims to do them ask how many has he or she done in the past 6 months and the date of their most recent case. If they are not willing to provide this information, simply ask to be referred to a proctologist. Proctologists are specialists who essentially make their career removing these. It's similar to a podiatrists treating diabetics with foot related pathology. Sure, a family medicine doctor or orthopedic surgeon can treat diabetic's feet, but the frequency to which they treat diabetic foot pathology pales in comparison to the number of cases podiatrists treat. It's always better to see someone who is used to doing a procedure as opposed to someone who has the knowledge but hasn't done very many cases.
