It's easy, and there's no rush from the salon for you to put it all on at Mach 10 speed! Part of the reason to go tanning is to chill and relax. I only apply lotion about 50% of the time when I go, which is on average about 8x month. I smear it on as even as possible but don't go to great lengths to make sure every inch is covered w/the same amount. My body naturally tans differently in different areas (I know of someone who says the same thing about herself too). My stomach always seems to get darker before my neck and shoulders, so I don't think that's connected to the lotion. The salons usually have posters that state it is more effective to tan moist skin as opposed to dry. After you build a good base tan, it all begins to blend in evenly.

Yes! But DO exfoilate skin FIRST, Then moisturize, Then apply self tanning lotion smoothly and evenly, wash hands after.
