Is blu-u treatment worth it..

So at a dermotoligist they have a machine called blu-u that is soposed to cure acne. does it work?

I don't know if there is a 'cure' for acne per se and am not sure what a blu-u machine is. I've heard of the obagi blue peel (named after a dr. obagi) which also has the tca (medium peel) chemical mixed with a some kind of material that is supposed to make the face a blue color at first (or a couple days after being applied). The dermatologist is supposed to be able to have more control over the depth of the peel as opposed to applying the tca by itself. I did, however, read in one of those 'cosmetic surgery' books that blue peels might be thought of as 'gimmicky' and not as effective as the tca alone. Perhaps you should get a second opinion from a different derm since this one mentions 'cure'. Perhaps he knows some new treatment, but I always thought that acne is somewhat chronic(?)

i am a dermatology sales rep and some of my offices have the blue light. it depends on how severe your acne is i guess. oral antibiotics along with topical medications will be a better choice in general. if your acne is very severe (like multiple cysts on your face) then the blue light will do very little for you. i would opt for the pills and topicals (both should be covered by your insurance.) the blue light is not yet covered by most major insurance plans so you would be paying cash for multiple visits, which gets VERY expensive! if you are compliant with the pills/topicals, you could see your acne improve greatly in 3-4 months. i'd try this before the blue light.
